Fate is decided … at golf

General Aidogan Babaoglu, Turkish Air Force Commander in the war with Kurds, gives orders when playing golf. British newspaper "The Guardian" mentions at least one such precedent.

One saw the general on golf course in Antalya at the time when an armed conflict started on the border with Iraq. Seventeen Turkish soldiers and twenty-five Kurdish guerillas died in that battle. Turkish side states its actions were in "response". Babaoglu admitted himself that he coordinated air attacks against Kurds right from the golf course, where a message on attack reached him. He returned to the headquarters in Ankara when the country was in deep mourning already.

Turkish media heavily criticized him after a picture of general's picnic appeared on front pages of "Vakit" and "Taraf" newspapers, which support a ruling Islamic Justice and Development Party.

But the general refuted accusations at his address, calling the criticism to be an effort to discredit Turkish armed forces. "Was there any shortcoming of Air Force during the operation? Was there any other fault? — No", stated the general.
