The Ladies European Tour Access Series will make history in the coming spring when it stages the first ever professional women’s golf tournament in Ukraine.

The GolfStream Ladies Open will take place at Kiev Golf Club on May 22-24, 2012, with a Pro-Am tournament at the venue on May 20.

Di Barnard, Tour Director, said that the event marked a significant development for the LET Access Series, which was launched in 2010 as a feeder tour to the Ladies European Tour.

“The GolfStream Ladies Open will be the first ever elite women’s golf tournament in Ukraine, the second largest country in Europe, and naturally we are thrilled to be breaking new ground by bringing some of the world’s most promising female golfers to the region,” she said.

“LETAS is experiencing tremendous growth at present and we thank GolfStream and Kiev Golf Club for believing in our great product. It is an exciting time for the Tour and our presence in Ukraine will bring increased awareness of women’s golf as well as the fantastic facilities that the country has on offer.”

A field of up to 120 competitors will play the 54-hole strokeplay event and the total prize fund is €20 000. The total prize money will be distributed to the top 25 professionals who make the cut (see Fact Sheet below for details). The top 40 players who make the cut will receive LETAS Order of Merit points.

The LETAS tour will be played on a championship golf course of Kiev Golf Club, which is the only one of the kind in Ukraine. The LETAS is also one of international WAGRanking golf tournaments held in Kiev Golf Club this upcoming season.

About the LET Access Series:

The LET Access Series (LETAS) launched in 2010 as the official feeder tour to the Ladies European Tour. The objective of LETAS is to provide greater playing opportunities for female professional golfers.

All female professional golfers and amateurs with a handicap of 3 or better are eligible for membership of LETAS, providing they are over 18 years of age. The top two players on the 2012 LETAS Ranking will earn membership of the Ladies European Tour for the 2013 season, while players in third to tenth positions will have the opportunity to progress to the final stage of LET Qualifying School, thereby skipping the first qualifying event. If the top two players are already exempt for the Ladies European Tour then the cards will be available to the next best players inside the top 10 on the 2012 LETAS Ranking. If a player in third to tenth position is already exempt to Final Qualifying School for the 2013 Ladies European Tour season, then the next non-exempt player down to 25th position on the 2012 LETAS Ranking will be offered a place at LET Final Qualifying School.
