«It was important for us, art critics, to collect for this exhibition very high level works of different artists. The exhibition demonstrates a new approach both to Ukrainian art and to development of auction space, even to a notion of «commerce» as such.

On principle we did not take what usually is associated in the mind of people with auction works. If we selected «classics», it is because these works are not typical and have never been displayed. But all of them are equal, including pieces of the painters whose names are not very often mentioned but mean much for real connoisseurs of art.

There will be a big section of graphic works, although graphics is usually considered to be «uncommercial». It concerns even works of very known painters! Two years ago our former gallery «Art-Foxtrot» literally «opened» graphics of Sergiy Shishko to our audience. And there are very many masters like him. We will have a big section with pastels by Victor Zaretskiy, which are also little known. In addition to graphics and paintings, we will present theater-decorative art – something that majority of people ignores.

In other words, we are trying to turn artistic values into economic equivalent. Certainly, it can be done only in the context of a market! If works of such wonderful painters are not shown at all or presented in a different context, then there will be no development of tastes in audience, in our understanding of art or on the market.

It means the project is after serious cultural goals. Our team selected the brightest representatives from each art school we

have in Ukraine (Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kyiv). The exhibition should show how Ukrainian art of 1960-1980th developed and from whom contemporary artists learned.

Frankly speaking, nobody holds now such broad displays in Ukraine. Time of republican exhibitions went into past long ago and only a few people undertake to present Ukrainian art in the whole. «Not big» names are disregarded, contemporary art is considered to be «a trailer» in general and it is poorly shown. And I have to say that during 12 years our current gallery «Tadzio» exists, we mostly dealt with contemporary art. As a result, it helped us to build the most complete and independent section of contemporary art at the Auction and we believe it is the best!».
