Guest from St. Andrews is to train greenkeepers of the Club
Next spring the largest European training center for golf industry staff sends its representative to Kiev Golf Club. Elmwood College is situated near St. Andrews (Scotland) by the very source of golf history, traditions and modern developments. The College operates for more than 50 years. Regularly it comes out with international training programs. It has its own 18 holes course and all possible conditions to be a golf "oasis" and "a university of dream" for many people in the world.
Ian Butcher, a known lecturer from the College, will conduct a special rating course for future greenkeepers in Kiev Golf Club. As an International Golf Development Officer, he runs many training projects in European countries. In addition, he recently began to work in China, where golf is actively growing.
The program for the Club’s staff includes lectures and practical trainings on different subjects:
Soil Management, Aeration, Top Dressing Techniques
Soil Management, Irrigation/Nutrition
Turf grass Species and Mowing Practices
Diseases and weed control/Chemical Applications
Non turf grass areas and Management of Rough/Bunkers/Environment
Golf Course Etiquette/Rules/Golf Culture and the Role of the Greenkeeper in Club Structures
Training programs of the College are famous for a close link to novelties and trends in the industry developments. They are practical but have a strong theoretic base at the same time. Their content covers many issues. No doubt that it is a big honor and luck for the Club because it will lead to our staff improvement on a very serious level. Great praise to managers, who made sure the program takes place in the Club. At present, the highest standard of golf specialists and the foundation of European golf culture require to know the basics in the profession, to be operational and efficient, to be aware of difficulties and subtleties of the game and to handle all non-standard situations.
The training begins in the end of April and is meant for both current staff of the Club and those who join the team of the Project by that time. Selection of new greenkeepers will take place in January - February, 2009. They will start to work in March and in April they will be invited to this unique course from Elmwood College and Ian Butcher.
